A group of IT employees in Hyderabad have taken a pledge to wear cottons on Mondays.

Promoted by the Facilities Management Council (FMC) along with the Telangana government, the initiative is aimed at increasing patronage for handlooms. The council organised a three-day Handloom Mela at the Phoenix Arena located in the IT hub of Hyderabad.

“Over 10,000 IT employees visited the mela and bought clothes worth ₹8 lakh at the expo. They have taken the pledge to wear cotton clothes every Monday to extend support to the weavers,” an FMC spokesperson said.

Encouraged by the good response, the FMC set up a team to conduct more such expos in various IT parks next year.
