To oversee two-day camp for HLA typing starting today at hospital

Indore: Giving fresh momentum to the project of starting bone marrow transplant facility in Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital, Dr Prakash Satwani of Columbia University along with divisional commissioner Sanjay Dubey inspected the facility under construction in the biggest government run medical facility of the state, on Sunday.

Dr Satwani will also oversee the HLA matching camp to be held in the hospital on Monday which will have more than 60 patients undergoing the procedure.

Following inspection, the bone marrow expert discussed about necessary facilities to be included in setting up the infection free unit with the divisional commissioner.

“The two-day camp for HLA typing will start from December 25. We have decided to give priority to the patients suffering from thalassaemia. More than 60 people have registered for taking the test at the camps,” dean of MGM Medical College, Dr Sharad Thora said.

He said that they have sent two doctors from Chacha Nehru Hospital to United States of America to receive training on transplant. “These doctors will further provide training to the nursing and paramedical staff to bring up an error free unit. As per the proposed schedule, one doctor will have to stay with the patient for at least a month in the unit to turn it infection free,” Dr Thora said.

Bone marrow transplants are scheduled to be started in the hospital from March, 2018 and with that the MY Hospital would become the first government facility in the state to provide bone marrow transplant to poor patients.
