Indore: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) students would be able to pursue one of their subjects through Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), an online programme aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the web. A proposal to this effect was approved by standing committee of the DAVV.

“The committee approved completion of 20 per cent of course curriculum through MOOC. In other words, a student can complete one subject via MOOC,” said in charge registrar Ajay Verma.

The university has made necessary changes in its rules to ensure its students can take benefit of MOOC scheme which was launched by central government last year.

Verma said that students studying in university teaching departments will be able to avail benefit of MOOC scheme. The scheme can be implemented only in courses offered under choice-based credit system (CBCS). “As the CBCS is only being offered at UTD, only its students will able to avail benefit of MOOC scheme,” Verma added.

The standing committee has approved as many as 32 courses offered by different teaching departments which could be pursued by students.

“After approval from Board of Studies, a proposal for developing content of these courses online would be sent to national coordinator of MOOCs. If he would approve the proposal, EMRC would process studied material of the courses online,” said DAVV media in charge Chandan Gupta.

He said that from studies to exams all will be online under MOOC scheme. “Credits received by a student in online exam will be transferred to DAVV which will be considered in preparation of marksheet,” he added.

The entire system will work on digital lounge for which a MoU was inked lately. Earlier, the EMRC had developed e-content for 15 out of 63 courses readied for MOOCs. Later, the e-content was reprocessed to open online course.

IIPS made computers research centre

Accepting a long standing demand, DAVV has made International Institute of Professional Studies (IIPS), an entity of the university, a research centre for computer science discipline. This will allow IIPS teachers of computer science discipline to enrol students in PhD courses at their own institute. IIPS offers both Management and Computer Science courses. The institute has been a research centre for Management stream for long while teachers of Computers would have to work at research centres housed in other departments.
