ANTIOCHTry to commune with the ghost of Black Diamond Mines Regional Park
Not only is Black Diamond Mines a nice spot for a hike, there’s also an abandoned cemetery worth exploring, if you dare. Rose Hill Cemetery, which holds occupants from the 1800s, is said to be haunted by the ghost of the “White Witch” Sarah Norton, who is seen floating among the headstones. There’s another type of ghost to see too: A few of the towns established in the 1860s around the area’s coal mines are visible in the park.

There aren’t many places to indulge in the high tea tradition in the Bay Area, so if you’re in the mood for a true tea party, the English Rose is your spot. They have a full afternoon tea option or a smaller cream tea, if you’re not quite so hungry. The little ones will love their special kids menus, which can substitute tea for apple juice or lemonade.

SONOMAStep inside Jack London’s world at Jack London State Historic Park
While this park is technically in Glen Ellen, it’s too good to leave off the list. Hidden in the hills are the ruins of Wolf House, the famous writer’s dream home. Construction was nearly finished when the house went up in flames. The ruins are haunting. In contrast is the House of Happy Walls, a smaller home built for the Londons after the loss of Wolf House, that has been lovingly turned into a museum.

Sure, it’s not what it used to be. But there’s still a little of the old Nut Tree charm left in Vacaville. The classic road stop closed in 1996 and was revived recently as a major shopping mall. Because West Marin is comprised of a bunch of little towns, we decided to combine them into one destination for the purposes of this list. The coolest thing to do in each Bay Area city
You've probably said it yourself a hundred times: It's almost impossible to run out of things to do in the Bay Area.
To test that, we put together a list of every major Bay Area city (sorry places with 10,000 or fewer residents; we had to create a cutoff somehow) and investigated the best things to do in each place. Even the lifelong Bay residents in the room were surprised by how many unique things we found — some of which we'd never even heard of.
As you might expect, there are plenty of outdoor hiking spots to enjoy. But did you know there's a children's theme park in Pittsburg? Or a local cemetery with multiple members of the original Navajo Code Talkers?
Looking for free or cheap things to do in the city? Here are a few of our favorites:
Consider this your Bay Area bucket list: A collection of things that you set aside for a free weekend or just one of those times when you want to see something new.
MORE: Bay Area things to do for fun off the beaten path
Let us know in the comments about your favorite things to do in your hometown. We live in one of the most beautiful, interesting places in the world — this list is just a starting point for the many things to do.
