New Delhi, Dec 25: Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Om Prakash Rajbhar on Sunday stoked controversy with his remarks saying poor people will only vote if they are lured with alcohol and chicken before elections. While addressing a gathering in Balrampur, the UP minister said that alcohol and chicken are assured votes.

“All poor bring alcohol and eat chicken and these leaders who go to Delhi and Lucknow make a chicken out of you for the next five years and that is why the bribe for votes given to poor during elections never helps in their development,”Rajbhar said.

Defending his statement while talking to a news channel, Rajbhar said that he made this statement so that the poor don’t cast their vote by getting influenced by false promises made by the political leaders.

In March 2017,  Rajbhar took office as the minister of the Department of Backward Classes Welfare and the Department of Disabled People development in Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government.
