NEW DELHI: Air passengers flying for their Christmas and year-end vacation will have to wait longer at airports, as the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has issued security alert at airports and has advised intensive checks at airports of passengers, vehicles entering the airport.

In a letter issued to all agencies involved in airport security, BCAS has issued a letter to asking them to maintain extra vigil till the new year day.

Airports across the globe have been under threat by terrorists during the time of Christmas and New Year. In India, Pakistani-based terrorists organisations have shown intent to attack vital installations in India.

The BCAS has also asked agencies to ensure extra care on the city side of the airports and carry out extra check of vehicles arriving at the airport.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which guards about 59 airports in the country, had recently warned that the city-side of airports in the country are vulnerable to attack.
