COIMBATORE: ADGP (headquarters) M Ravi and Coimbatore city police commissioner K Periaiah have won the gold medal (doubles) on Saturday at the 10th all India police badminton championship 2017 held in Kochi.
The duo defeated two officers - one from the Telangana police and another from the Border Security Force (BSF).

This is the second gold medal in the event for the city commissioner. Last year Periaiah and deputy superintendent of police Elango had won the gold medal at Shillong in Meghalaya.

"When I was the additional superintendent of police at Nagapattinam in 1997, I started to play badminton for physical fitness. Now, it's an important part of my life," said Periaiah, who has been participating at the event for the seventh year.

"I am very much of interested in sports. I played hockey in my college and had been part of Coimbatore district football team. It is important to promote sports among police officials," he added.

Police officials above the DSP rank from CRPF, BSF, RPF, ITFB, SPG, NSG and from various special units have been participating at the all India police badminton tournament every year.
