LUDHIANA: The churches in the city are all decked up and preparations are going in full swing to celebrate
Christmas on Monday. A huge gathering of worshippers was seen at Holy Christ church, Sarabha Nagar. However, it was the youngsters who were the most excited.
The devotees not only visited the churches, but they thronged the markets, malls and restaurants. Most of the places decorated their stores with Christmas trees and the people stopped to click selfies.
Speaking to TOI, Gurmeet Singh, a resident of the city, said, "Christmas is one of my favourite festivals. Though it's the birthday of Jesus Christ, the festival also spreads the message of joy and happiness. I along with my friends and family visited the churches to light candles. Today, we are going to have a party."
A huge congregation of devotees thronged Kalvari church, one of the most popular churches in the city.
Albert, an employee with a private company, said, "Christmas gives us a reason to come together and celebrate. We will donate warm clothes to the needy. My friends and I have also arranged for a party, which gives us opportunity to spend time together."
For couple Manish and
Chetna Rai from Dugri, Christmas has always been special. But this year, they are even more excited as their newly-born daughter will be with them.
"This Christmas is very special for us as it is the first Christmas of our daughter Avnika and therefore we are celebrating this festival by organising a small party with our family members. We have also decorated a Christmas tree in our garden."
