A top official of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has admitted 'partial failure' of police  in taking case over the rape of four women of a family at Shah Mirpue under Karnaphuli thana in Chittagong.

"There is nothing to deny. At the initial stage, police were partially negligent from recording the case till visiting the scene. They should have given more importance to look into the matter," said the CMP deputy commissioner (port) Harunur Rashid Hazari at a press conference on Monday.

On December 12, a gang of robbers stormed the house of an expatriate at Shah Mirpur village in Karnaphuli. They raped four women in the house fled with money and gold jewellery.

The victims went to Karnaphuli Police Station the next day, but police dilly-dallied to register a case in this regard.

Later, police recorded a case five days after the incident at the order of Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury.

Replying to a question regarding action against the Karnaphuli thana OC for his failure, Hazari said the matter would be informed to the CMP commissioner.
