Jaipur gears up to celebrate Christmas

JAIPUR:City is gearing up to celebrate Christmas on Monday. From malls to churches and from hotels to schools across the city are immersed in the festivities. The extended weekend has made the festival colourful for the residents and visitors from different parts of the country.
Christian Missionary Schools—St Xavier's School, St Edmund's School, St Anselm's School in Malaviya Nagar and Jhotwara, St Sophia were decked up to celebrate the festival. The church in these schools has been decorated with colourful lights and frills for the midnight mass.

"Every year we not only get Christians but our students, alumni, neighbours and people from different faiths turn up in churches during the midnight mass and throughout the day on December 25," said Sunil John, who is one of the organisers at Christmas fair at St Anselm's School, Jaipur.

Kenneth Williams, a resident of Hathroi Fort is a sales manager in a private company but becomes a carol singer a week before Christmas.


"The preparation for carol singing is done in a unique way by visiting each other's family in the evening. Carol lyrics are known to all but the chorus sound when we sing together gives a spiritual feel," said Williams. The festival is incomplete without savouring cakes. The bakeries in the city are working overtime to complete the orders both corporate and personal.


The Christmas festival is not buzzing around Christian localities but at red light hawkers selling Santa cap and mask to people of all community. The sales have become manifold in the last two days as they moment they see children in the car or in the motorcycle they offer cap and mask.


From roadside to city's hospitality sectors is also making the most out of the festival. Piyush Sharma, a manager at four-star hotel in Jaipur has turned it hotel into Christmas theme. "From restaurant to the lobby and from swimming pool to the bar, every corner has Christmas paraphernalia - Santa Claus, Christmas tree, red balloons and live carol singing. It is being done from years to give our clients a feel of a festival," said Sharma.
