NAGPUR: Controversies and goof-ups, it seems, go hand in hand in the functioning of the Nagpur University (NU). It posted a circular online on December 20, which was actually dated December 15, mentioning the date of the doctorate of philosophy entrance test (PET), without the signature of Board of Examinations and Evaluation director
Neeraj Khaty.
The dates and the process for offline exam and MPhil aspirants' schedule too appears botched-up.
As per the schedule, online PET-I will be held from January 17, 2018, to January 19, followed by offline PET-II on February 10. The last date for submission of forms online is December 28 and aspirants need to print and submit the applications along with original documents before December 30.
The circular, which was already posted online after five days of notification issued, gave eight days for submitting online application and just two days for reaching the hard copy to the university, in case an aspirant filed it on the last day on December 28. For the PET held in 2016, the gap was of six days from August 10 to August 16.
This year, pro-VC
Pramod Yeole, who is the chairman of Research & Recognition Committee, announced the option of offline PET-I for senior citizens and entrance test for MPhil aspirants. The PET schedule, however, is silent on both aspects. The notification is also silent on the examination date of ofline PET-I for senior citizens.
The circular bears the title 'MPhil/PhD registration entrance examination' but the MPhil schedule has not been specified.
When asked,
Khaty offered only a banal explanation about the missing signature from the important document. "One paper must have been missed but the notification has the signature," he said.
Pro-VC Pramod Yeole didn't answer to TOI's calls.
Some aspirants said the schedule looks botched-up. "In the circular, the NU has asked for signatures of the guide and head of place of research to establish authenticity of PhD registration applications but it is not following the same. Convenience of outstation aspirants have not been thought about," they said.
This time the negative marking in PET too has been hiked to half a mark besides making research approval of all three examiners, instead of two, a must for award of the doctoral programme.
On October 22, TOI was the first to report about the negative marking to be introduced by NU.
The Nagpur University (NU) has finally notified the much-delayed the doctorate of philosophy (PHD) entrance test (PET) for degree. However, the PET schedule uploaded on the NU's website does not have the signature of director of Board of Examinations and Evaluation Neeraj Khaty raising concerns whether the officer actually cleared the document. The dates and the process for offline exam and MPhil aspirants' schedule too appears botched up.
