A deaf man was shot Saturday evening in an attempted robbery on the North Side, police said.

San Antonio Police Sgt. Sean Johnson said authorities were called for a shooting in a Church’s Chicken parking lot on 2431 Basse Rod around 6:35 p.m.

Johnson said the shooter fled the scene after he robbed the 39-year-old victim of cash and shot him once in the leg.

The victim’s wound was not life-threatening, officials said, but he was transported to University Hospital.

Police apprehended a man in his 20s who was near the scene and matched descriptions of the suspect given by several witnesses. His name was not immediately released Saturday night.
