The rally was carried out by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) and the group has demanded reservation in both private as well as public-sector jobs. The rally was taken out from Bengaluru's National College grounds to Vidhana Soudha. The group has raised the demand on the recommendations based on the findings of the Sarojini Mahishi Committee (1984) that had recommended a 100 per cent reservation of jobs in the state for the subjects of the Karnataka state.

Even though it has been more than three decades since the Mahishi report has been out, no government could manage to implement the recommendations. Also, Bengaluru growing as the technological hub of the country has seen a massive influx of people from the rest of the country taking up jobs in Karnataka. This has also led to the perception that people from outside the state are 'taking away' jobs that could have been taken by the people of Karnataka. This perception has also manifested itself in the social fabric of the state with some racial attacks also being witnessed in the state.   

The group has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of the state asking their demands to be met. What remains to be seen is whether the issue becomes a political one given that elections are due next year in the state.
