GHAZIABAD: Nearly two months after she was allegedly
duped of Rs 10.5 lakh by a cyber-fraud gang, a 32-year-old city-based woman finally managed to get an
FIR registered in the case on Sunday.
The woman, a widow, was duped after she accepted the friendship request on Facebook by a woman, who allegedly belonged to
Italy.
In the past two months, Jyoti Dhamija tweeted several times to senior police officers of
Uttar Pradesh. In one of her latest tweets, which stirred the police into action, Dhamija wrote that she had come to know why people commit suicide as the police does not help them in finding a solution to their problems."Ghaziabad police want me to do the same, but I will not commit suicide," she wrote.
A resident of Crossings Republik and a teacher at a private school in Noida, Dhamija had first given a written complaint to
SSP Hari Narain Singh on November 6, who had transferred her case to the cyber cell assuring her that an FIR would subsequently be lodged.
Following the incident, Dhamija, who lives with her four-and-a-half-year-old daughter, kept running in October from
Vijay Nagar police station to the office of SSP to get an FIR lodged, but no one paid heed to her complaint. Frustrated with the situation, she started tweeting to UP cops. It was only two days back when public relations officer of UP DGP office, Rahul Srivastav, took cognizance of the tweet and Dhamija's plight, police swung into action and filed an FIR.
Dhamija had come in contact with the Italian woman by the name of 'Byron' through Facebook and later started chatting with her on WhatsApp.
She later lured her into paying Rs 10.5 lakh through 17 online and cheque transfer. The money was taken on the pretext of income tax or issuing one certificate or another. She lost the insurance money which she got after my husband's death.
When contacted, SP (city) Akash Tomar, said: "After the matter came to my notice, I gave an instruction to Vijay Nagar SHO to file an FIR. A thorough investigation will be done."
