101 Bengali couples celebrate "day for love" in Kolkata

The Kolkata-based Mission Trust, a multifaceted philanthropic organisation, organised a mass marriage of 101 Bengali couples belonging to poor and underprivileged families.

The event was held at the P.C. Chandra Garden in the city. The organisers erected separate marriage tents with a sitting area for the bride and bridegroom and relatives on the stage.

The brides and bridegrooms, dressed in traditional Ghagra and Sherwani, took part in the mass marriage ceremony as they could not afford the cost of hosting such an event themselves.

The marriages were solemnised as per traditional Bengali customs and traditions. There was no exchange of dowry or fanfare. Spiritual guru Sudhanshu Maharaj and a galaxy of distinguished persons blessed the newly married couples.

The Mission gifted basic necessities like an almirah, key ring, trolley iron (Press), steel cook ware, pillows, bed sheets, ornaments, sarees, hygiene kits like soaps and a month's ration.
