Security guards injured in assault by motorcycle gang
SUNGAI PETANI: Two security guards suffered head and body injuries after they were assaulted by a group of men on motorcycles in front of a library in Jalan Kolam Air, here, at 5.45am yesterday morning.
Kuala Muda District Police chief ACP Saifi Abdul Hamid said the incident occurred when one of the security guards, aged 39, was approached by a group of men on about 20 motorcycles after he had placed cones in front of the library fence.
"One of the suspects had asked the victim,"Is the 'pondan' (transvestite) here?" and when the victim responded "no", another one of the suspects kicked the victim on his right shoulder and then left the scene.
"The victim then called out to his 27-year-old colleague, who was about 10m away, but five minutes later, the suspects came back. The victim asked them what did he do and one of the suspects came down from the motorcycle and hit the victim's head using a helmet, " he said in a statement today.
Saifi said another suspect took a machete from the guard house and brandished it at the victim, while his colleague who saw the incident tried to wrest the machete and injured his left elbow in the process.
"Both victims could not recognise the suspects' faces as they were wearing helmets, and it was dark at the time. Only three to five suspects were involved in beating the victims, while the rest observed," he added. — Bernama
