Fallout from US's Jerusalem decision (I)
The international community has once again delivered a stinging rebuke to the United States over its recent decision on Jerusalem al-Quds. The United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly passed a resolution against Washington’s unilateral recognition of the city as Israel’s capital. 128 UN member states voted in favor of the non-binding resolution. The strong support for international law came despite intensified American threats.
US arm supplies to Ukraine
The US is due for new tensions with Russia. For the first time, the administration of American President Donald Trump has approved the direct sale of lethal weapons to the Ukrainian government. The move further increases previous arms sales which were restricted purely to non-lethal and defensive weaponry. Under Trump, the US has not changed its policy on the situation in eastern Ukraine and is siding with the government in Kiev that has been engaged in a conflict in eastern Ukraine against pro-independence fighters. The pro-Russia militias in eastern Ukraine enjoy support from Moscow. The conflict has left thousands dead since it started three years ago.
