Russia angered by US arms supplies to Ukraine

(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MOSCOW, Dec 23 (KUNA) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned Saturday that his country would not remain inactive for the provision of US lethal weapons to Ukraine.

Washington has crossed all lines in fomenting the conflict in Donbass region, east Ukraine, he said in a statement.

The US arms supplies will lead to more victims and encourage the Ukrainian authorities to commit more bloodshed, the Russian official said.

The US politicians are stuck to their hostile approach towards Russia and it is useless to call them to be wise, Ryabkov noted.

Washington can no longer be viewed as mediator in the conflict since it proved to be a party to the conflict, he went on.

The Russian statement came one day after the US announced plans for providing Ukraine with 210 anti-tank missiles of FGM-148 Javelin type and 35 launchers.

The "enhanced defensive capabilities as part of our effort to help Ukraine build its long-term defense capacity, to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to deter further aggression," spokesperson of the US State Department Heather Nauert said in a statement.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko warned two days ago to use force to end the conflict with the Russian-backed separatists in Donbass region, which prompted Russia to suspend the 2015 Minsk agreement. (end) as.gb
