‘Family’ is the new flavour at New Year parties in city hotels

Dec 25, 2017, 00:13 IST
Coimbatore: The party scene in the city is not what it used to be a decade ago. Hoteliers and event organisers say the number of party venues has shot up and the city is becoming another party hotspot like Chennai and Bengaluru.
Since such parties used to focus more on couples and singles, families were left out. However, families will be the focus this New Year, several city hoteliers said.

"For the past two to three months, we studied the market trends in the city. While there were a lot of party places for stags and couples, families did not have much option. We realised that events for families was the real hunger of the city," said Shivakumar, managing director of Hotel Vijay Elanza.

The hotel will organise 'Star Night', which will cater especially to families, Shivakumar said. It will have games, karaoke and stage events.

Vishnu, a member of ViVi MC Team and Wahtsup Events, who will organise the event, said the response has been very good. "Usually, ticket sales quicken only on the last two or three days of December. But, this year, we have sold more than half of the tickets, while there is still a week to go for the New Year," Vishnu, who has been organising events in the city for the last three years, told TOI.

Erine Louis, general manager of Residency Towers, who shared the same view, said Coimbatore already has a lot of party options for youngsters. "For this New Year, we have planned a candlelight dinner for families in our Chin Chin and Afghan Grill dining spaces. It is especially for those who want to spend time with their families, have a good time and cherish the New Year. That's our concept this year," he said.

While 'Mersal Night 2018', an event to be held at Poppy's Hotel, will cater to singles, couples and families, organisers said they would arrange a separate space for consuming alcohol, away from the family area. The hotel would also have separate spaces for youngsters, who want a conventional party.
