Man assaulted by seven to recover Rs 1.5cr

Surat: Seven people were booked at Kadodara GIDC police station of Surat district on Sunday for allegedly thrashing a 24-year-old youth, who is the son of a metal workshop owner in Kadodara GIDC.
Deepak Pande was attacked by a gang of contract assailants to recover a businessman's Rs1.5 crore from his father. The man's father had lodged a police complaint against one of the attackers on December 13.

Pande was allegedly attacked by the gang of Hanu Bharwad at around 8.30pm on Saturday. Police booked Bharwad and his five associates along with industrialist Sudesh Lakhmani on whose behalf the victim was thrashed to recover Rs1.5 crore from his father. The accused were booked for assault with deadly weapons, rioting, unlawful assembly and dacoity and robbing Pande of his gold chain worth Rs50,000.

The entire incident was captured on CCTV camera. Bharwad came to the unit of Pande and asked him to come out. The victim knew Bharwad and so he went outside the unit. As soon as Pande came out, the attackers thrashed him with sticks.


Pande suffered a fracture in hand, injury on head and legs and is undergoing treatment in a hospital.


Pande's father Anil had lodged a complaint at Kadodara GIDC police station against Bharwad of threatening. Anil alleged that Bharwad had threatened him in his unit of dire consequences if he did not pay Rs1.50 crore of Lakhmani.


"We are collecting evidence in the case. So far no arrests have been made," police said.
