The result of a crucial bypoll in Chennai's Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar (RK Nagar), the constituency where J Jayalalithaa won her last two elections, will be announced today.

Counting of votes will begin at AM. For Jayalalithaa's party, the ruling AIADMK, victory is a must, but certainly not a given. Presidium chairman Madhusudhanan faced off against two strong contenders, the DMK's Marudhu Ganesh, and former AIADMK deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran. There's much at stake in the RK Nagar bypoll: a legacy, prestige, political momentum, and of course, bragging rights.

The RK Nagar bypoll result, among the most-awaited of the year, should have been out as early as April. But the Election Commission cancelled it after uncovering evidence of corruption and bribery. Round Two seems to be been no different, as an India Today TV investigation found out. But this time, we'll finally have a winner.
