The Phoenix Police Department is asking for the public's help finding the driver who killed a grandmother in a hit-and-run accident early Friday night.

Police were called to the 10000 block of North 15th Avenue just south of Peoria Avenue to investigate a report of an injured woman.Jessie Lindsey, 53, of New River, was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A car bumper, which police determined to be from a 2011 Dodge Charger, was left at the scene following the accident. The color of the car is not known, according to a police statement.

Tisha Morgan, the victim's niece, said the bumper was black and there were no witnesses.

Morgan said her aunt was crossing the street at a crosswalk when she was hit. A pedestrian later found her and called police around 6:30 p.m., she said.

The pedestrian said Lindsey was still alive and moving at the time, but her injuries eventually were fatal, Morgan said.

Lindsey, who has two adult children and three grandchildren, was planning to go to her niece's house for Christmas dinner with the family, Morgan said.

"She was a very loving person. A very funny, outgoing person that loved everybody," Morgan said.

"She liked making jewelry. But really her main hobby was her kids and grandkids and my kids. That made her so happy," Morgan added. 'My son is disabled and seeing him would always make her smile. The first thing she would say when she came in the door was, 'Where the babies at?'"

The family set up a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses, saying they want to properly honor her but are going through a financially difficult time.

The driver left "her there with no family to say good bye or tell her how much we love her before we lost her," the family wrote on the page. "We are extremely heartbroken."

Police are asking residents who have any information about the accident to call the Phoenix Police Department or Silent Witness at 480-W-I-T-N-E-S-S.

A reward of up to $1,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.
