A 17-member Indian squad for the ODI cricket series in South Africa in February was announced today.
In the squad to be led by Virat Kohli, most of the current limited overs regulars are automatic picks. Middle-order batsman Kedar Jadhav and speedster Shardul Thakur have made a comeback. The two seasoned spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, were once again ignored.
The selectors have decided to persist with the young trio of wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal along with left-arm orthodox Axar Patel.
Shreyas Iyer has been rewarded for his good show against Sri Lanka in the ODIs, with his maiden overseas tour with the senior team. The squad also includes pacemen Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur.
India will tour South Africa for three test, six ODI and three T20 series. India will play the first test on January 5 in Cape town, Centurion will hold the second test between the two countries from January 13 while the third and final test of the series is scheduled to begin in January 24. A 17- member squad for the test series was announced earlier.
