In RK Nagar bypoll, voters prefer NOTA over BJP

NEW DELHI: BJP today lost to NOTA by a margin of 956 votes in the RK Nagar bypolls.
The saffron party was able to secure a mere 1,417 votes against the 2,372 votes cast in favour of "none of the above" category.

Hilarity ensued when the news of BJP losing to NOTA reached the social media.

A Twitter user questioned, Will the BJP now accuse NOTA of fraud as it has more vote than the party?


Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy called for accountability following the abysmal vote count of BJP.


Another user hailed the voters who chose NOTA to cast their vote.


One Twitter user even suggested that the people who had come to support BJP did not vote for the party.

On December 2, BJP had announced the name of Karu Nagarajan as its candidate for the RK Nagar bypoll


Nagarajan, a regular face in Tamil TV channels who puts forth his party's views on various issues, had unsuccessfully contested the 2016 Assembly polls from Mylapore constituency in this city.


The result of the RK Nagar bypoll was declared today with sidelined AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran winning the election by a margin of 40,707 votes.


Dhinakaran got 89,013 votes while AIADMK's E Madhusudhanan secured 48,306 votes. DMK candidate N Maruthu Ganesh got 24,651 votes, while BJP's Karu Nagarajan amassed 1417 votes.


Dhinakaran secured 50.32 percent of the 1,76,890 votes polled.
