Nitin Gadkari to discuss restructuring of Brahmaputra board

GUWAHATI: Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Nitin Gadkari will hold a high powered board meetingof Brahmaputra Board with all the Chief Ministers of the North Eastern States and West Bengal to review the functioning Board in the region on December 30 at Kaziranga National Park.

On Saturday, the Union Minister will chair the 9th meeting of High Powered Review Board of Brahmaputra Board (HPRB).

The Chief Ministers of the 8 North Eastern states Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim and West Bengal along with the Union Ministers for Finance, Transport, Power, Agriculture are the members of HPRB.

Joint Secretary (Policy& Planning) Ministry of Water Resources, River Development, Government of India cumChairman of Brahmaputra Board, who is also the Member Secretary of HPRB, Sanjay Kundu said that the restructuring of Brahmaputra Board would be discussed by the members.

Other key issues to be discussed in the high powered board meeting will be assigning of works of development of the Master Plans, Survey and Investigation and Detailed Project report for water resources in the North East to WAPCOS, a PSU under the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India.

The Union water Resource Minister with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will lay foundation of Rs. 237 Crores project 'Protection of Majuli Island from Flood and Erosion" taken up by Brahmaputra board at a foundation laying ceremony to be held at Rawnapar in Majuli on December 29.

He will also lay the foundation stone of 'Brahmaputra Board Complex, Majuli' costing Rs. 40 Crores.

In the same event, Assam chief Minister will lay foundation of altogether nineteen schemes for mitigation of flood and erosion taken up by State Water resources department in Majuli, which will cost total Rs. 61 crores.
