The Akhil Bharatitya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has demanded that the State Government establish second campus of the Rama Devi University and open PhD classes in the university soon.
To press for these two demands, ABVP activists led by Priyanika Priyadarshini Malllick pasted posters in front of the university campus on Friday.
“The city Mayor, Ministers and the Chief Minister, while attending annual meetings of the university, made promises only but are yet to translate them into reality. Elected student union leaders have only propagated Minister’s promises. But the university has not seen any development even as two years have been passed since it was declared a university,” alleged Mallick.
Mallick said while two other universities, which were declared along with the Rama Devi University two years back, have already got funds for their second campuses, Rama Devi University has remained neglected.
There are 5,000 students studying in the university having a 24.57-acre campus. All classes are not being held properly as the university has no adequate classrooms. Even some PG Classes are running till 5 pm. Even the University’s sports events are being held outside the campus. What is more worrisome is that PhD classes have not been opened till now, lamented Mallick.
She said the ABVP would take to the streets soon if the above demands are not met at the earliest.
