Fantasy Premier League: Shock inclusions in best fantasy football XI from past 25 years

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE stats have not been around since the start of the modern top-flight 25 years ago, but if they had there would have been some huge points tallies over the seasons.

Fantasy football is big business these days, with millions of players studying the form book and on the lookout for injury news as they strive to make ground in their mini-leagues.

The official Fantasy Premier League game has really taken off in recent seasons, with over 5.5million managers signing up for the 2017/18 campaign.

Recently players such as , Riyad Mahrez and Kevin De Bruyne have taken the game by storm, with these FPL favourites raking in huge scores over a season.

Now, using a combination of Press Association and Premier League data to determine points based on the current FPL criteria, Bailiwick Express have revealed which stars would have enjoyed the most profitable campaigns since the start of the modern top-flight.

Taking into account the extra matches up to 1995/96, and the fact bonus points are impossible to calculate for the pre-FPL era, the top scorer in each position has been identified – with a number of big surprises.

Take a look through the gallery above to see which players would make it into an ultimate Fantasy Premier League XI from the past 25 years.
