Rajkot: A 22-year-old Dalit man committed suicide at his house in Bagasara town of Amreli district, allegedly due to harassment by moneylenders, on Saturday night.

The death of Raju Chavda, who hanged himself, sparked outrage among the community members who blocked the roads in the town on Sunday demanding immediate arrest of the accused. Police registered an offence on Sunday evening and arrested two persons identified as Pratap alias Tiku Vala and Gautam Vala, who were booked for abetment of suicide.

Witnesses have told police that some people including the two accused came to Chavda's house on Saturday night and threatened him with dire consequences.

"In the morning, police were reluctant to register an offence but gave in after a mob choked the roads of Bagasara. We are demanding arrest of five other people who had accompanied the arrested duo," said one of the protesters.
