GURUGRAM: A candle march was organised in the city on Sunday evening by the family members of the 27-year-old
MNC executive, Sunil Kumar Bhatt, who was murdered and had his body dumped in
Mahipalpur green belt last week. The family members demanded capital punishment for the four accused who were arrested on Saturday by the Delhi Police.
Sunil worked as an engineer in a Manesar-based automative parts manufacturing company, Denso India. A native of Uttarakhand, Sunil lived with his wife and four-month-old daughter in Gurgaon's Gandhi Nagar. He was found murdered in the forested area of Mahipalpur in Delhi near Delhi-Gurgaon expressway on December 15. Bhatt was on his way to Haridwar to attend a family function. He had gone to the bus stand in Old Gurgaon to board a bus, but failing to do so he took a lift from an unknown person in a private cab, along with two other accused who posed as fellow passengers.
The three accused murdered Bhatt, and later used his debit cards to withdraw money and shop for the next two days. The Delhi Police managed to solve the case a week after scanning the CCTV footage fetched from the three ATMs frequented by the accused, and arrested them on Saturday.
On Sunday evening, over a hundred family members and friends of Sunil gathered at Rajiv Chowk and organised a candle march till the police commissioner's office on Railway Road. They also submitted a memorandum demanding that the killers be hanged.
Sunil's family members made three demands to the government of Uttarakhand and Gurgaon police. "We demand that the accused should be given capital punishment, the case should fast-tracked and Sunil's wife should get a government job," said Neeraj Bhatt, a relative of Sunil.
Denso International India Private Limited, where Sunil was employed, were also asked to employ Sunil's 26-year-old widow till the time she gets a government job. "It will take some time for her to get the government job. In the meantime, Denso India should look after her," said Chandrashekhar Joshi, another relative.
