Canadian orchestra launches probe after Dutoit allegations

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) " A Canadian orchestra is launching an investigation in the wake of sexual assault allegations against renowned conductor Charles Dutoit.

A spokesman for the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, where Dutoit served as music director for nearly 25 years, confirmed Sunday he is the subject of a complaint. Pascale Ouimet said he could not provide any additional information.

The orchestra on Saturday announced an independent, third party would conduct an investigation of sexual harassment.

The Associated Press on Thursday reported allegations against Dutoit by three opera singers and a classical musician who said he sexually assaulted them in incidents between 1985 and 2010.

Dutoit's office has issued a statement saying there is no truth to the allegations.

Eight major symphonies have ended their relationships with Dutoit since The AP's story was published.
