Private courier services popular in Comilla

COMILLA, Dec 23: Privately-run courier service providers have become popular in the district in recent times in the district following the government-run Postal Department's apparent failure to provide the people with satisfactory services.
The growing popularity of these courier service providers has resulted in increasing losses incurred by the department years after years.
Some well-known courier services have already won the trust and confidence of the people here for their faster, reliable and cost-effective delivery system.
Trader Salim Mia, who lives adjacent to the Shimpur Post Office Complex in Amratali Union under Comilla Sadar Upazila, alleged, "The Post Master and his staff are rarely seen in the office. General people come to the office and return home without having any kind of service from there. On the other hand, whenever we go to the office of any courier service provider in the district, we get warm reception other than timely and dependable services from them."
Local people in the district these days favour the private courier service companies for sending their parcel items like important documents, letters, money and others to different destinations because of the service providers' quick delivery system.
ABM Atikur Rahman Bashar, a teacher of Dabidwar Upazila said to this correspondent, "People do not go to the government-run post offices because of their slow and faulty services. On the other hand, the private companies have earned confidence of the people as they are providing services almost flawlessly."
As the post offices are losing grounds, the government is being deprived of a large amount of revenue almost on a regular basis.
The local people, however, have sought the government's necessary measures to improve the service standard of the often-neglected Postal Department.
