Nine members of the 6A state champion Greenwood Bulldogs highlight the 2017 River Valley Best of Preps All-Star football squad.
Among the Bulldogs selected to the squad are the dynamic offensive impact players in quarterback Connor Noland, tailback Kenny Wood and receiver Peyton Holt. Noland, a recent University of Arkansas signee, passed for more than 2,800 yards and 34 touchdowns, while Wood rushed for 1,720 yards and 28 TDs and Holt caught 101 passes for 1,355 yards and 17 TDs.
Greenwood offensive lineman Noah Sexton and placekicker Grant Ennis were also selected to the squad on offense. Lineman Jon Womack, who recorded 11 1/2 sacks, is among the Greenwood contingent on defense, which also includes linebackers Camden Beshears and Nick Vota along with defensive back Dylan Vota.
Three members of 4A quarterfinalist Booneville were selected to the squad. Wide receiver Ethan Dobbs and running back Carson Ray made it on the offensive side, while nose guard Noah Reyes was selected to the defense.
Charleston, which reached the 3A quarterfinals, was represented by a pair of wide receivers, Sean Michael Flanagan and Mason Wisdom. Flanagan, who is also a defensive back, recently signed to play at Oklahoma State University.
The Northside Grizzlies, who made it to the 7A quarterfinals for the second consecutive season, had six players make the squad. That includes a pair of All-State selections on offense, quarterback Derrick "Deuce" Wise and tackle Stevie Young. Leading tackler Anthony Travis, a linebacker, was selected as well as fellow linebacker Locke Stubblefield and defensive back Greg Washington. Jason Serpas was selected as the punter.
Southside, which reached the 7A playoffs after a season's absence, was represented by All-State quarterback Taye Gatewood as well as receiver Tyrese Solomon.
Representing Alma, a 5A quarterfinalist, were a pair of seniors on offense, quarterback Garrison Jensen and receiver Brayden Johnson. Coltin Bowerman, a defensive back, was selected as well.
Two members of 2A state quarterfinal squad Vian were picked, leading rusher Bodhi Vann and River Simon, who is the Wolverines' quarterback but also the team's leading tackler from his linebacker position.
Muldrow, which claimed a share of the 3A-8 championship and held its first home playoff game in 10 years, was led in the representation by quarterback Braden Gleason. Defensive lineman Toby Sparkman and linebacker Cade Floyd were the other Bulldogs selected.
Rounding out the BOP list on offense are Sallisaw lineman Jason Bartel, Hackett lineman Trevon Blanton, Stigler tailback Garret Brooks, Ozark tight end Bryant Burns, Van Buren lineman Nathan Westbrook, Paris running back Dakovan Wise and Ozark tailback Daniel Woolsey.
Others selected to the BOP list on defense are Roland linebacker Javen Bray, Van Buren lineman Jayden Mendez, Ozark linebacker Baylor Ree, Mountainburg linebacker Robert Roxin, Poteau lineman Gunnar Thompson and Poteau defensive back Race Williams.
The football All-Stars will be among those honored at the second annual River Valley Best of Preps banquet, which will be held at the Fort Smith Convention Center and tentatively scheduled for late May.
