‘I just want the words European Union removed’ Farage praise for passport word change

HE brandished his passport as a symbol of Britain’s lost sovereignty during the Referendum campaign but Nigel Farage has said he does not care if the new version reverts back to the iconic blue or not.

The former Ukip leader said it was not the colour that mattered but the wording.

He said: “I couldn’t care less what the colour is, I just want the words removed. The fact that it’s going to be navy blue is a bonus but any colour would do frankly, apart from the burgundy one we’ve had for the past 30 years.”

Former Dragons’ Den star James Caan was forced to backtrack yesterday after he tweeted that changing the colour would cost taxpayers £500million.

In fact the Government was always planning to spend that amount producing passports.

Nigel Farage said it was not the colour that mattered but the wording

The multi-millionaire was widely ridiculed on social media after tweeting on Friday: “A country that would spend £500million to change the colour of a passport while children sleep on the streets is a country whose priorities are wholly out of whack.”

He fell short of issuing a full apology yesterday, tweeting: “Good news. Having researched the cost of providing new passports it appears the £500million for the colour is fake news.

However, that doesn’t detract from my intention that together as a society we need to prioritise tackling issues such as children in poverty and homelessness.”

The Sunday Express exclusively revealed the return of the blue passports in April, and MPs are now demanding that the passports, which will replace the European Union burgundy versions from October 2019, be made in the UK.
