The Vice President of Afghanistan Mohammad Sarwar Danish has said the distribution process of the electronic national identity cards will kick off next week.
Speaking during a gathering in Kabul, Danish said the distribution process will be launched next week.
Danish further added that the persistent issues in the electoral bodies will also be resolved in the near future but he did not provide further information in this regard.
In the meantime, the latest remarks by vice president Danish regarding the launch of electronic national identity cards distribution come as a joint parliamentary commission last week approved a presidential decree to pave the way for the start of the process.
The decree by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani was issued to modify the controversial article#6 of the census law which prevented the launch of electronic national identity cards distribution since a long period of time.
The decree stated that the the nationality of the ID card holders should be mentioned as Afghan while the religion should also reflected in the card as Islam.
On the other hand, officials in the department tasked with the distribution of the electronic national identity cards said earlier that they are fully prepared to start the distribution process of the cards.
