The Academy of Yoga and Oriental Studies (AYOS) organised a lecture on ‘The mind cleansing measures of Patanajali (Chitta Parikarma)’ here earlier this week with AYOS director Dr Indulata Das as the speaker.
The meeting was presided over by former IPS officer Arun Kumar Upadhyaya. Senior journalist Sugyan Choudhury was guest of honour. AYOS member Mihir Kumar Mishra welcomed the guests and the audience.
Dr Indulata Das said, “Yoga means Samadhi, which is the state where the mind is completely conquered. The research done on the mind by Maharshi Patanjali is not done by anybody else in the world. Maharshi Patanjali is the greatest psychologist of the world. He has described all the methods to elevate the mind from the lowest level to the highest.”
“Man becomes a superman when he reaches the highest state of mind called ‘Samadhi’. He goes beyond all the sorrows and miseries of life and is liberated from the whirlpool of birth and death.
In order to reach the state of Samadhi, the mind has to be purified.
The various measures to purify the mind are called ‘Chitta Parikarmas’.
By various Chitta Parikarmas, the mind of the yogi is gradually concentrated and he acquires various supernatural powers or Siddhis. But the yogi has to ignore these Siddhis to reach the state of liberation,” she said.
There was a question-answer session after the lecture in which many scholars
participated. Sugyan Choudhury described a supernatural experience of his life with a great yogi.
