A child sustained a "serious injury" following a multi-car collision on Interstate 390 north near Dansville on Saturday afternoon, deputies announced.

Traffic is closed in the area due to the collision, Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty said. The collision happened about 3:30 p.m.

Dougherty said traffic is shut down northbound in the area of Exit 4.

He said deputies are on scene in the area. No further information about the child's condition was released.

Dougherty didn't release how many vehicles were involved or what might've caused the collision.

Earlier in the afternoon, Dougherty issued a traffic advisory in Livingston County due to the snowy, wet conditions. The slick snow is creating icy conditions on roads.

"I just issued a travel advisory for all of Livingston County to be in effect from now until midnight," Dougherty said. "Please use due care and caution."

He said the advisory doesn't restrict travel, but motorists are asked to travel with care while on Livingston County roadways. Dougherty said deputies and other law enforcement agencies have been called to numerous traffic incidents in the impacted areas. He cautioned drivers to slow their speeds and to avoid travel if possible.

He continued, "We want everyone to have a safe holiday weekend and make sure our roads are a safe place to travel for the motoring public. Deputies have been directed to thoroughly investigate each crash and issue appropriate tickets for infractions such as speed imprudent to weather conditions, distracted driving (texting, phone calls without hands free), unsafe tires, tailgating and other violations that would cause the crash."
