A 22-year-old Michigan man critically injured when a sandbag tossed from an Ohio overpass crashed through a car windshield has died, and the group of teens accused in the case may face additional charges.

Marquise Byrd was sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 75 Tuesday evening when he was struck by the construction sandbag, the Detroit Free Press reported. The driver, who was not injured, pulled over and then phoned 911.

“I don’t know what happened, my friend, I don’t know what happened he’s not moving,” she told the dispatcher.

“I was just driving underneath the bridge and something hit my car. He is not moving.”

Byrd suffered from severe head injuries and died Friday evening, a Toledo police spokesman told the newspaper.

Three 14-year-old boys and a 13-year-old on Wednesday were charged with felonious assault in juvenile court. They were arrested after officers spotted them leaving an area near the overpass.

Sgt. Kevan Toney said the four teens will likely face additional charges in wake of Byrd’s death.
