Vellalore residents protest against TNSTC, demand regular bus services

Coimbatore: Residents of Vellalore staged a protest on Saturday morning and demanding the TNSTC (Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation) authorities to operate regular TNSTC town buses from Vellalore to Singanallur and Vellalore - Gandipuram. The TNSTC authorities operated the buses from Idayarpalayam village near Vellalore to Singanallur and Gandhipuram and it allegedly took extra half an hour time to reach the two junctions.

Hence, the school, college students and office-goers could not reach the two junctions on time. They subsequently staged a protest and TNSTC officials pacified them.


TNSTC had been operating three town buses (route no -74 and 74 A) from Vellalore to Singanallur and Vellalore - Gandhipuram and more than 200 people were using the bus services to reach the two junctions - Gandhipuram and Singanallur. Meanwhile, the TNSTC has extended the bus services to Idayarpalayam village near Vellalore and many people occupied the seats from Idayarpalayam itself.


"We requested the TNSTC authorities to operate the three bus services from Vellalore to Gandhipuram and Singanallur during morning from 7 to 8.30 am every day. It would help to students and people who are working in various companies in Coimbatore city can reach them on time. If the buses are operated from Idayarpalayam village through Vellalore, it would take more than 30 minutes to reach the two junctions," said N Mohanraj, a resident of Vellalore.


As many as 100 people including 40 women were staging protest at the Vellalore bus stand on Saturday morning and did not allow three TNSTC town buses from 8.30 am to 9.30 am. TNSTC officials from Ondipudur reached the spot and pacified the protestors. They promised them that they would resolve the issues within a week and requested the protestors to co-operate with them so that they can operate the buses. After which, the protestors withdrew the protest.
