(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) President of Indian National Congress (INC) party Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit the United Arab Emirates on January 9.
The 47-year-old party leader and members of the primary opposition party in India planned this visit to meet the Indian diaspora in the UAE. Gandhi is expected to visit the UAE after attending a function in Bahrain, according to Punnakkan Mohammad Ali, general secretary of Overseas Indian Cultural Society, also known as INCAS, an Indian community with allegiance to INC.
Ali also revealed that there could be a public function in three Emirates, Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi where Gandhi would speak to Indians living in the UAE. Ali said, "All India Congress Committee (AICC) members have scouted a few venues to organise the events. So far, we're looking at the Dubai World Trade Centre in Dubai to organise the meeting."INCAS are expecting at least 20,000 people to attend the meet and greet. "More details about the events will be announced on December 26," added Ali, also mentioning that Gandhi is particularly interested in meeting young Indians residing in the UAE. He is expected to meet with UAE leaders as well.
This is Rahul Gandhi's first visit abroad after taking charge as the president of the INC, a post his mother Sonia Gandhi held for 19 years.
