The BJP on Friday staged demonstration before the office of the district Collector here protesting the State Government’s lackadaisical attitude towards farmers’ issues.
They said that the State has witnessed several farmer suicide incidents because the State Government cannot solve their problems including crop damage due to pest attack, lack of irrigation system, failure of good marketing of agriculture produces and delay in disbursement of crop loss compensation.
They alleged that though the BJP raised questions in the State Assembly about increase in unemployment rate, investigation of mining scam and PC issues, but the State Government tried to escape by adjourning the House ahead of 13 days.
Distress sale of paddy is rampant in rural Odisha due to failure in procurement system. Earlier, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced that Rs 100 bonus on minimum support price of a quintal of paddy would be provided to each farmer but it did not keep its promise, the leaders rued.
Hundreds of BJP supporters across the district took out a bike rally and converged at the Collector parade ground here. They submitted a memorandum to the Collector.
