New Delhi: The senior selection committee of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) under MSK Prasad has announced India’s 17-man squad for One-Day International (ODI) series against South Africa.

The squad sees the return of captain Virat Kohli, who was rested for limited-overs fixtures against Sri Lanka. Apart from him, middle-order batsman Kedar Jadhav also features in the squad. The right-handed batsman recently suffered a hamstring injury and thus was ruled out of the series against Sri Lanka.

Selectors have decided to give young batsman Shreyas Iyer, who scored back to back half-centuries against Sri Lanka, an extended run. Also finding place in the team is Mumbai pacer Shardul Thakur. He is the fourth frontline seamer in the team besides Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. While Umesh Yadav has been ignored.

In the batting department, Ajinkya Rahane has held onto his place. However, KL Rahul has been shown the exit door. Dinesh Karthik doubles up as wicketkeeper besides being a middle-order batsman.

Meanwhile, the selectors continue to ignore Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja for the limited-overs fixtures.
