7 lost mobiles outside SVNIT during counting

Surat: Victory celebrations of BJP candidates from outside Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) here on December 18 turned out to be a bitter experience for their supporters. A number of persons present outside SVNIT during counting and who later joined the processions of the victorious candidates lost their mobile phones and cash to pickpockets.

Unidentified persons were booked at Umra police station on Friday for stealing mobile phones and cash of seven people. Police are yet to mention the exact value of the stolen materials. Police registered one complaint for multiple thefts that took place outside SVNIT even when seven complainants had approached them. The thieves are suspected to have targeted many more individuals in the crowd but they are yet to approach the police.


The police complaint was lodged by a student Utsav Mehta, whose mobile phone was stolen during the melee.


Hitesh Modi, Hemant Prajapati, Kadir Shaikh, Bharat Suthar, Ruchi Patel and Udaypal Loden were the others who lost their mobile phones to thieves. Several people had their pockets picked too.
