Boulder County's chance for a white Christmas has increased substantially as the National Weather Service predicted an 80 percent chance of snow tonight, with up two 2 inches of accumulation.

Although the chance of snow drops to 20 percent on Sunday night, a 20 percent chance also exists on Chrismas Day.

Today, most of the snow is expected to happen before 10 p.m., and it is expected to be blustery and cold overnight, with a low of 12 degrees and winds gusting to 23 mph. The chance of snow drops to 20 percent overnight.

The high is expected to reach about 33 degrees on Sunday, and a 20 percent chance of snow exists on Sunday night and during the day on Christmas.

NWS records indicate Boulder had around 8 to 10 inches of snow on the ground on Christmas Day in 2014, and around 6 inches in 2012. The agency states that the probability of having an inch of snow or more on the ground in Denver on Christmas is about 38 percent, but the chance of measurable snowfall typically is only 15 percent.
