President Ram Nath Kovind is on a brief visit to Rameswaram island on Saturday. He arrived at the Mandapam helipad at 11.15 a.m.
Accompanied by Governor Banwarilal Purohit, the President flew down to Mandapam in a helicopter from Madurai airport on arrival from New Delhi in a special flight.
Tamil Nadu Minister for Information Technology M. Manikandan, Ramanathapuram Collector S. Natarajan, ADGP Vijay Kumar and SP Omprakash Meena received the President.
Later, the President and his family members drove down to offer worship at the historic Sri Ramanathaswamy temple in Rameswaram. The President and Governor were received at the temple by R. Jaya, Commissioner, HR and CE department as temple priests accorded a ceremonial Poornakumbham reception.

After a brief stay at the circuit house, the President and his entourage are visiting the APJ Abdul Kalam National Memorial in the afternoon before leaving for Madurai at 2.15 pm.
