Inspection At Rly Workshop, Special Wagon Flagged Off

Northern Railway General Manager Vishwesh Chaube inspected the Railway Mechanical Workshop here today. He also flagged off a special wagon made in this workshop. Later, he held a meeting with Member of Parliament (MP) Gurjeet Singh Aujla.

The wagons — BOXN HL and BVCM — are first of its kind as these are fitted with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The RFID technology offers the benefits of automatic identification and tracking of the rolling stock when used in conjunction with trackside RFID readers.

This workshop is the first of the Indian Railways to have undertaken fitment of the RFID tag on the newly-built wagons. Details of the wagon number, type, etc. can be updated in the RFID tag, thereby facilitating better planning of maintenance activities and obviating the need for manual records.
