The Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests and Thunder Basin National Grassland are participating in the Every Kid in a Park Program, which allows fourth-graders and their families to visit day-use areas free of charge.
To obtain a pass, current fourth-graders can visit everykidinapark.gov. The pass is valid for a full calendar year and grants free entry for fourth graders and three accompanying adults or an entire car for drive-in parks.
Those who sign up for a pass online can print it out and exchange it for a more durable pass at the Hahns Peak/Bears Ears Ranger District at 925 Weiss Drive in Steamboat Springs; Parks Ranger District at 100 Main St. in Walden or the Yampa Ranger District at 300 Roselawn Ave. in Yampa.

Registration open for library's Shakespeare reading group

Bud Werner Memorial Library in Steamboat Springs presents a six-week interactive reading group focusing on William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," led by veteran English teacher Sally Frostic. The free workshop will be held at the library from 6 to 7:15 p.m. on six consecutive Wednesdays, Jan. 10 to Feb. 14, for first-time and experienced Shakespeare readers alike.
The overall emphasis is on enjoyment of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" through discussions, reading brief excerpts aloud and learning about the playwright and his world. Participants are asked to commit to the reading and attend most of the sessions.

Children invited to pay library fines with food item donations

During the month of December, kids can pay off library fines while helping local families in need by participating in the Bud Werner Memorial Library's annual Food for Fines program. For every can or box of food kids bring to the Kids' Desk, the library will waive $2 of overdue fines. All food will be donated to LiftUp of Routt County food bank. This program is for kids and students, 17 and younger, accounts listed under the child's name, during December only, not valid for replacement fees. Steamboat Springs Board of Realtors hosts community dinner

The Steamboat Springs Board of Realtors will be hosting the 30th annual Community Christmas Dinner from 2 to 6 p.m. on Christmas Day, Dec. 25 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center, 1605 Lincoln Ave. The free dinner is open to the community and there will be live music.
