Barkley was wrong
Roy Moore, adorned in his black Stetson and armed with his “Saturday Night Special” revolver rode his horse, Mitch, venturing off into the sunset to join Steve Bannon’s wagon train to discuss plans on how to lose more GOP Senate seats.
Should have listened to POTUS, who after the election was decided and the winner declared, tweeted that he knew Moore could not win the election, but failed to share this revelation with Bannon and Sarah Peek-A -Boo Sanders.
And lest we forget, Alabamians did prove to Sir Charles that they are not idiots.

No Bill or Hillary?
Re: “Uresti adds potential witnesses; U.S. Rep. Cuellar among 166 names,” Business, Dec. 13:
I was amazed at the list of potential witnesses for the Carlos Uresti case. Very impressive list. Are they all going to say what a great guy he is?
They left out Bill, Hillary, and Obama. Also, they left out our two great councilmen. You all know who they are. The guys that did away with the Confederate statues. Now they want to move the Cenotaph from the Alamo. Getting back to Uresti, I wish the trial would start soon, not next year.

A vexing question
We live in a time of utter hypocrisy! There is never an excuse for this behavior toward women. So why is Trump president?

Democracy? No way
Re: “Ignorance hindering democracy,” Thomas Arnow, Other Views, Dec 12:
Arnow says he knows more about the Constitution than the current president. No doubt he does. But Arnow and a plethora of your letter writers apparently don’t know much about our form of government. We are not a democracy. We are a republic!
A Republic elects officials to represent us in governmental decision making. A democracy is a rule of the majority. And we certainly aren’t that. For years, we’ve elected and re-elected idiots to go to Washington and “represent” us. Do they make decisions most constituents want? I won’t even go there.
We even use this form of government at the local level. How often do you see city councils or even school boards make decisions contrary to what the majority wants? If we were a democracy (rule by the majority), we would not have girls in the Boy Scouts, God out of our schools, prayer prohibited at ball games, the NFL siding with kneelers, etc, etc. If we were a democracy, our presidents would be elected by the people in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia and the other large cities. You wanna live with that?

Happy Holidays
Health care, prosperity and peace for all people should be a priority over guns and nuclear weapons.
There is nothing wrong with money, but the love of it is evil.
Roe vs. Wade is the law of the land, and those in the LGBTQ community are also U.S. citizens.
These are some of my thoughts, perhaps not yours.
For the country and the world, Happy Holidays.

Exploiting U.S.
Re: “Here’s my résumé,” Your Turn, Dec. 12:
The letter writer demonstrated the one-sided, narrow-minded opinion of one who cannot distinguish between the veracity of professional journalism and extremist propaganda. He is grossly mistaken by stating that “most of America likes and supports” his president. The Liar-in-Chief lost the popular vote by about 3 million. The letter writer appears duped or willfully blind. His motto should be “Make America Hate Again.”
Just because your newspaper does not publish his tribalistic worldview, he spouts off a demeaning rant, repeating the blatant lies of a man judged by mental health experts and law enforcement profilers to be psychologically unfit to be president, a man who presents a danger to our nation. The writer misdirects his frustration by berating newspaper staff. He needs to read our Constitution carefully to see how many times his president has violated it. I am sure unbiased media would report nice things about Trump … the day he demonstrates caring for Americans instead of using them.

City Hall mess
Edward Benavides is at best a total incompetent with ethics issues, and yet he wasn’t exactly fired after his disastrous helm of SA 300; he was “reassigned.” To what exactly? And why are we still paying him? We should be suing him for our money back and there should be an accounting of the work he did at SA 300.
What on earth does it take to get fired at City Hall? I’m a huge fan of Sheryl Sculley, but this was a horrible fiasco, and she recommended this incompetent at $167,000 and then didn’t even fire him. She has to answer for this mess; he was hired on her recommendation. I’m thoroughly disappointed in her and as for Benavides, he should be unemployed.

Being Christian
I have become so embarrassed by the behavior of evangelicals that I’ve gotten to the point that I don’t want to wear a cross anymore. I don’t want anyone to think that I am one of them. Also, I realized yesterday when I was greeting fellow shoppers with the words “Merry Christmas” a sense of discomfort began rising within me. I realized that some might think that I’m fighting the fake war on Christmas which they have manufactured. I guess that in the end it’s just best for me to let people suspect that I am a Christian by the way that I treat others.
