Maria Sharapova has criticised the way tennis is run

Sharapova has only just returned to tennis, playing for the first time in 15 months back in April.

But the 30-year-old believes the players are not being consulted on the changes to the game.

“Tennis's importance keeps getting bigger, and rightly so,” Sharapova told German newspaper Bild.

“But unfortunately, players are not involved in the conversations regarding changes.

“I learned about news for 2018 through the internet.

“It can't be correct.”

Sharapova is set to play her first full season since 2014 after a doping ban last year.

And the Russian has admitted she even struggled to keep a diary during her time out of the game.

“I felt bad and alone, sometimes I wrote in my diary,” Sharapova said.

“But during the suspension, It was difficult to write.

“Many people next to me told me that during the ban period I grew up as a person."

She added of her return to the court: “I already played that match in my mind.

“The night before, I slept better than ever.

“I was imagining any scenario, I was ready.

“I felt everything normal. But it was shocking to be in the competition again. No one can practice for it.”
