Manila,
A tropical storm in the Philippines that triggered mudslides and flooding has killed more than 90 people, the officials have said.According to a report of the Sky News, the casualties, most of them inflicted late on Friday, were all on the main southern island of Mindanao.
“We’re are still trying to confirm reports of a farming village buried by a mudslide due to heavy rains brought by the typhoon,” said local official Ryan Cabus. Power and communication lines have been cut, complicating rescue efforts.
Forecasters said the storm had gathered strength over the Sulu Sea and was packing winds of up 50mph.It was heading west and would be out over the sea by midday on Saturday, they added.
Emergency workers, soldiers, police and volunteers were being mobilised to search for survivors, clear debris, and restore power and communications.
