Although snow can be a real pain a lot of the time, I think that we can all agree that when it snows on Christmas, it’s actually kind of nice. Buzz60
If you were dreaming of a white Christmas, grab your sleigh bells and get ready for those treetops to glisten.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for most of Central Indiana, including Indianapolis, for Sunday. It said snow is expected from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will be highest from late morning through the afternoon.
The Weather Service also warned residents to be prepared for slippery road conditions, reduced visibility and breezy conditions that could lead to blowing and drifting snow.
"You may get a little melting," Meteorologist Andrew White said Friday about the snowfall, "but there should be a little bit on the ground through the morning and into the afternoon."
After a high temperature in the 50s on Friday, temperatures will cool to a high of 37 degrees on Saturday and 29 degrees Sunday on Christmas Eve.
Snow should start falling Sunday afternoon and continue, off and on, through the evening.
Christmas Day will bring sunny skies and a high of about 31 degrees. The Indianapolis area could see another dusting of snow Monday night, White said.
Snowfall records have been kept for Indianapolis since 1871, according to the National Weather Service. A trace of snow or more has fallen 66 times on Christmas Day over the 146-year period.
